The dreaded witching hour

Has anyone experienced this? How long did it take to settle?

My 5 week old baby has been fussy every evening for the last 2 weeks. I created this topic back then
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/parenting/5334215-im-at-my-wits-end-is-this-colic-cmpa-reflux-or?reply=144258334

and the only reason I can think of is the witching hour. if he had colic or reflux it would be quite obvious, wouldn’t it? He has a little bit of reflux after milk but not every time. Every evening around 7pM it starts and he cries for about 1-2 hour before he settles down.

When does it get better? Any tips?

We had this and it stopped about 12 weeks. Tbh nothing worked really and we tried everything - maybe walking around with him worked sometimes. It was just time really and he grew out of it.

I had this with both my girls and it settled at around 12 weeks. I remember being on Mumsnet myself and thinking omg I can't cope that long. But the time will go fast, and it will be a distant memory soon. Things that worked for us were bouncing with them on a ball, putting them in a baby carrier and dancing/walking, swinging in a carry blanket (yes really)! I used to put on dance anthems on radio 1 and dance with them and at least I could enjoy myself too.

Thank you for the replies.

I hope it’ll settle soon. I’m
dreading every day at 7pm 😩

OP how have you been getting on? We’re at 11 weeks and it’s still pretty tough.. hoping there is some light at the end of the tunnel?! If so.. any tips that worked for you?

Hi @LBL91 There is light at the end of the tunnel, he’s 14 weeks now and it’s stopped thank God 🙏🏻 it stopped a few weeks ago I don’t remember exactly when but I think around week 10-12. The only thing that helped was to take him out in the garden. Hope it settles for you soon 👍🏻
