Head Bobs

My DS is almost 4 months old. He holds his head up well when I am carrying him, and is OK when being held in a sitting position. I am just a bit concerned that he seems to have trouble controlling it. If he turns to face a different direction his little head bobs about quite a bit. He isn't quite strong enough to sit in his Bumbo seat - his head still moves about a lot making him uncomfortable. Anyone else experience the same and should I be concerned?

A friend has just come over with her baby born on the same day. His neck or rather head control does seem week in comparison. I think I may just check with HV. Any Mums of almost 4 month old babies that have the same???

How do you know it makes him uncomfortable?

Babies heads are quite heavy in relation to their bodies so it will take a while for him to be strong enough to support it. But always trust your instincts and get him checked out if concerned.

NotABanana he squirms after a few seconds and starts to cry. I will ask the HV next time I am there to weigh him. He is my third and I am probably comparing him to my other DC. Should know better by DS three.

When you sit him down?

When I sit him in the Bumbo seat - which it says is from 3 months. Maybe I am putting him in it too soon.

He might not like the seat. They weren't around when my eldest was small but I have to be honest and say I wouldn't have used one. What is wrong with a bouncy chair? Maybe he just doesn't like it?

You have a very good point. He loves his bouncy chair. The Bumbo is just a new fad. My others just loved sitting propped up and this is just an easy way of doing that. If I think about it the sitting stage is only at 6 months - so he is probably just not ready. Thanks for you input
