I took my little one to A&E on 2nd May to be told he had croup, he started showing signs of this a few days before until it got worse. 2 weeks later he is still so bunged and and has a chesty cough. He is absolutely fine in himself, still eating drinking and all the usual activities, but you can still hear all the phlegm, he still has a runny nose and a very chesty cough and is just chesty in general. He is my first so this is all new to me and not sure on what is normal.
Is this to be expected still 2/3 weeks after being at the worst stage of croup? Is there anything I should be doing, do I just ride it out, should he go see a GP? Not sure what to do.
Also there is another confirmed case of Croup at his nursery, most likely started from my little one from the early stages, can he catch it again?

Hi, so sorry to hear your little one has had croup - mine has had it twice now and it’s just the worst. The nurse practitioner told me that the virus stays in their system for about 6 weeks plus and to expect a cough for a good few weeks. It took absolutely ages for the cough to go completely. Also just to pre warn you the NP also said to me that if they get it once, there’s a high chance they’ll get it again next winter and he did end up catching it again. We tried to make sure to always have a drink around to soothe his throat.
Hope little one is feeling better soon!!
