give her a big box and some tissue paper and let her eat chocolate cake - I know that will make my dd happy when she turns one!

I let her eat chocolate cake with her fingers and get it smeared all over her face, and took a picture! Had the grand parents over, pretty dress on etc. Of course it doesn't mean that much to them, but the photos will when she's older i think.

IMHO first birthdays are really for the mummies (parents possibly depending on the dad!). I like to make a big deal, I like to be surrounded by my friends and then have a night out with my dh!

Your LO will have no real clue what's going on. Birthday cake, friends, a few "lasting" presents if possible and lots of photos are all you need to think about.

Enjoy and congratulations on surviving the first year!!

Chocolate cake for my 2 dds on their 1st birthdays too. They are now 9 & 6 and those piccies bring a tear to my eye! Those chubby little cheeks all smeared with cake.
Enjoy. In a few years you will be taking hordes of little girls bowling or for pizza!!

Take loads of photos. No one took any of my DS at his party so I don't have any (I was busy making pizzas and doing the cake and stuff)
