Settling into preschool

Hi, my son started preschool 3 weeks ago, two days a week. 1st morning I stayed with him for an hour. Second day he wanted to stay on his own. They rang me an hour before pick up as he was upset & very tired and they couldn’t console him. Since then he will not stay on his own there. I went to leave today but he was sobbing and sobbing and shouting he wants to go home with me. With the bank holiday he has only been there 5 days so I guess it’s not a long time really.

i just wanted to know if anyone else has been in this situation and did it improve? Thanks

Hi @lola2707how old is your son? Can he explain why he doesn't want to be there? My son was the same at his first preschool and it turned out there was a boy there who was causing problems (with everyone in his class including my son), I was quite disappointed in the staff too so took him out and changed to a different setting and he absolutely loved it! Maybe see if he can tell you more about it, or if you can stay and watch him for a while. It may be just because he's new he's not sure what or who to play with but maybe having you there would help. If anything worrying comes up I'd definitely recommend moving him, but hopefully it won't come to that!

@NeedSleepNowPlshe was 3 in February. He does like it there, he is excited to go in the mornings but just wants me there. He does play on his own aslong as im
stood watching. It’s almost like a comfort knowing I’m there. Hopefully it will get better. This is his first childcare environment, he’s never been to nursery before. Thanks for your reply 🙂

Ahh that's reassuring then, sounds like he'll have a lovely time there once he's settled 😊 he'll soon make friends and hopefully run in happily

Yes I hope that’s the case! He’s got up this morning and asked to go but it’s not his day today.
