Toddler sleep driving me crazy

DS is 3 next month. He's always been a great sleeper. Was sleeping through the night from 6 months and for the last near 2 years has had a 7/8-7/8 routine.

Fab. Amazing. Great. Lucky me hey.

Well.... that was until a month ago. Now sleep is absolutely shit. He goes to bed at 8pm and then wakes up about 2am ready for the day. He's not tired. Totally ready to get up. It then takes me another hour or two to get him back to sleep and then we are all up again vwry shortly for nursery!

Nothing has changed to bring this on. He doesn't nap at home anymore and hasn't for quite a while but about 50% of the time at nursery he does. I've tried an earlier bed time, later bed time, putting his toddler bed in our room and letting him sleep there to see if it makes a difference.... nothing.

His communication is great and when I tell him it's bed time we need to go back to sleep he says he isn't tired and we should get up now.

Thing is he isn't even tired during the day from lack of sleep. Or, not that he's showing.

I'm sure it's just a phase but any advice to get back on track or anything would be amazing. I did message our HV service but they were not very helpful with advice.. jsut assured me it sounds normal.

Thats fine but i need some tips and tricks. I am TIRED!

Could he be ready to drop his nap completely - home & nursery?
My DS stopped napping at home but would still nap at nursery as he approached 3, but it messed with his bedtime so there was no consistency. We asked nursery to stop putting him down for a nap and after 2 weeks his night sleep went back to being settled.

Yeah good shout. Might ask nursery tomorrow to start to try that.

If it's the same time every night, you could try waking him up 15 mins earlier and then immediately resettle him to break the pattern?

Worth a shot! Thank you will give it a try!

He needs to stop napping at nursery

Also - it’s been very warm and sunny recently, might he be getting hot? Or perhaps morning sun coming in (probably not at 2am though)

Stop all naps.

get a Gro Clock. They are colour coded so you set daytime and night time, my daughter responds really well to hers, we bought her it when she moved to her big girl bed and was able to get up and down herself. Most of the time she sleeps through 11-12 hrs a night, but she still has horrendous split nights where she’s up all night long so with the clock she knows it’s bedtime still and will talk to her teddies or look at books in bed, it also works in the morning when she’s up really early because we also have a baby so don’t want her rattling her baby gate at 5am!
