Stairgate

Bought a stairgate for the bottom of our stairs but hadn’t realised until we were about to install it that it could be potentially more dangerous with it there than not. As the first step has no banister, so it would need to be installed on the second step. Which makes me worry that he would climb onto the gate on the second step and then fall backwards. I have been looking for a corner gate to be installed as shown in picture. But I can’t seem to find any. Has anyone got and recommendations?

Put the gate from the other side of the bottom banister to the wall opposite

We taught our daughter how to climb the stairs as soon as she started crawling and only had the bottom stair gate in place for a week. We never had a problem with her climbing when she wasn't allowed but gave her plenty of opportunities when she was with us.

If you were a childminder you'd have to install it exactly right, but to be honest our stairs are identical to yours and we just did exactly what you aren't supposed to do. Now our youngest is nearly 3 We're thinking of removing them!
Of course you know your children but honestly don't over think it.
