antibiotics- 1 year old advice

my 1 year old has been ill over 20 times in his first year of life. he's been on antibiotics in hospital as an 8 week old with a urine infection and covid and has had had a few prescribed anti b's from the GP for ear infections and chest infection's.

He's been ill now for a week, up and down temps, crying hysterically. i've been keeping him dosed up with pain relief when needed and tried to let his body fight it but through the night he was struggling to swallow and had horrible breath and very hot and couldn't sleep.

took him to out of hrs GP first thing today who confirmed double ear infection and tonsillitis with some puss but he had no temp when she checked. She's prescribed him antibiotics and said try not to give him it unless he has a temp again as she doesn't want him to be dependant on them in future which i completely understand. it's also a 10 day course!
He's in a lot of discomfort and it's been going on a week now and he's getting worse. Would you start the antibiotics or try ride it out? i'm so torn and rubbish at making choices. 😥 any medical professions angels out there,? what would you suggest?

If he's got the infection then I personally would start them. Poor mite, hope he feels better soon 🤞

I just feel like it's constant. the poor thing hasn't had a break since he was born!

Think she just worried me by saying he might be unable to fight things off himself in future and that it destroys all the good stuff in his body

He is probably likely to fight things off in the future if he isn't already ill!
Honestly I had a lot of ABs as a child, and I don't think they stopped me fighting other infections. Removing my tonsils did that - I hardly need ABs after that.

so i went to pick up the antibiotics and they've prescribed the least baby friendly kind, says to take every 6 hrs 4 times a day, he isn't even awake that many hrs in a day and there's no way i'm waking him if he's asleep and causing more distress for him!
also has to be taken an hour before or 2 hrs after food which again is difficult. i think i will be on the phone to my docs in the morning to see if there's a different kind that can be given 😭
