DS has been prescribed Iron, il attach an image below.
It is very difficult to give this as he is spitting it out and not getting the correct dose.
Pharmacist doesn't think this can be mixed with a drink.

has anyone got iron drops (prescribed Iron) , wondering what my options are here or persevering with what I have!

Whilst the image is under review, we have “Sodium Feredetate 190mg/5ml” 4ml once daily

Im looking to find out if prescribed Iron exists in drop form, that could be mixed in with a drink.

I bet you can mix it with orange juice (which increases iron uptake via vitamin C). I can't think of any reason why you COULDN'T add it to a drink to disguise the taste. The only things to avoid are dairy especially milk, and tea, coffee and break immediately before and after.

The main reason not to dilute it is that if your LO doesn't finish the drink, you can't tell how much they've had - but if they are spitting it out, that's happening anyway! I would dilute in orange juice or squash just enough to disguise the taste, keep the total volume small and then you'll know it's all been drunk.

This BNF page says it's better taken on an empty stomach, but that can cause stomach ache, so you can take it with or after food bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/sodium-feredetate/

PS iron takes people two ways, some get constipation so you might want some prune purée in - but others get an upset stomach. I have to take my iron tablets at night to avoid side effects, even though you're best of taking them first thing in the morning. You need to find what works for your son!

@OtterMummy2024 thanks for the advice!! Its so hard to get them to take medication at this age!! He doesn't mind Calpol etc but he really didn't like the iron!
