DS’s 5th Birthday Party

JustAMum31 · 24/04/2025 21:36

DS has requested a “hall party” this year - local church hall with bouncy castle, buffet etc. His specific request is for “a bouncy castle, the face painting and tattoo lady, and another really cool fun thing please Mummy” 😅

I have asked if there’s something specific he’s thought of and he says no, that he just hopes for something else “so cool” for him and his friends to do 😂

I know he’ll be delighted just with the bouncy castle and face painter but he’s had a really tough time finding his way with other kids and his confidence with socialising has skyrocketed recently so I’d really love to give him a special party that he can enjoy with his friends.

Anyone got any inspiration for “another really cool fun thing”? 😅 Anything that usually goes down well with kids that age (will be 4-6yo kids). Happy to set up something ourselves or to see about hiring someone in 😊

Small chocolate fountain...

NerrSnerr · 24/04/2025 21:38

Could you get an icecream van to come and give them an ice cream or lolly (if allergic)?

notsureyetcertain · 24/04/2025 21:39

Chocolate fountain is a great shout. Someone in a costume of a favourite character?

Set up an area with a load of toy cars for racing- they can then take one home as a party favour 😁my 5 year old would have loved that.

SunshineAndFizz · 24/04/2025 21:42

Parties I’ve been to this year (for 5 year olds) have had; party games with cool prizes, a craft station where they could decorate a mask, one hired ‘Bluey’ to turn up for photos and another had a parachute with games.

Mascots go down a storm with the kids. Jumping on the castle with Chase/Bluey/Peppa is great, they will also give out party bags which the kids love.

Also love the ice cream van idea. I’d love that at my age too!

Is there any outside space? We had a 5th birthday with (careful! Supervised!) marshmallow toasting last year, which they still talk about.

Bournetilly · 24/04/2025 22:01

A mascot visit, my DC had spiderman at theirs.

HS1990 · 24/04/2025 22:03

Scavenger hunt
Cookie or cupcake decorating

SouthLondonMum22 · 24/04/2025 22:30

chocolate fountain
popcorn machine
candyfloss machine
slime making
superhero mascot e.g spiderman
ice cream van is a good one too

The last party DD attended in a hall ( I think it was for a 6th birthday), the parents had hired this animal/reptile guy who brought snakes, geckos, lizards, tranachulas, a skunk, meerkat plus other creepy things - all the kids loved it! I couldn't wait to get out of there!

JustAMum31 · 24/04/2025 22:35

Thank you so much! These are fab 😊

I was so focussed on thinking of another activity that I never thought of food being the fun part! Chocolate fountain or ice cream van may just work 😊

He does love crafts too so I’m wondering about setting up a craft station of some kind too.
Mascots do seem to be popular but he’s not really that big on any particular characters so I feel like he wouldn’t be that fussed about that!

@Hayley1256 😂😂 I can already picture the husband shaped hole in the wall 😅 DH is absolutely not a fan of things like this and would likely traumatise the kids with his reaction 😂 (bloody great husband but bloody wimp when it comes to animals 😂)

We went to a party with pottery painting that was a real hit - it was a normal hall party but then the painted bits of pottery were glazed and fired and shared with nursery pals the following week.

LittleLabrador · 24/04/2025 22:46

mine have had bouncy castle slides outside as well as the bouncy castle inside before now (although I realise this is weather dependent!)

ice cream van sounds like an amazing idea. Craft tables are always a hit and easy to do.

my daughter went to a hall party recently and they had lots of little stations like a little (inflatable) football goal area, a Nintendo Wii area, fun game area run by a parent (musical statues, pin tail on donkey etc) as well as the standard bouncy castle. Kids did not get bored at all and my daughter raved about it

Lol! You could a lot of parents busy wanted to run but none of us wanted to leave tje kids with these things and only 3 adults - although if one had escaped I'm pretty sure we'd have all run 😅

mynameiscalypso · 24/04/2025 22:57

Honestly, the thing that my 5 year old and his friends seem to love the most at parties is balloons. Just loads and loads of balloons. Balloon modelling has been a hit but mainly because the person doing the modelling made balloon swords so all the kids could run around hitting each other. But normal round balloons also work.

CrispieCake · 24/04/2025 23:18

Popcorn machine or giant Connect4.

Give out blow up pirate swords with a small bag of haribo instead of party bags.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 24/04/2025 23:53

We had a bouncy slide instead of castle. It was much safer as had a natural one way system and the kids played on it constantly for the two hours!

JustAMum31 · 25/04/2025 04:45

These are all great ideas - thank you! The bouncy castle hire place also hires out giant games like Connect 4, mini cars, inflatable darts etc for very reasonable prices so maybe we could make it like a mini fairground with various games/activities and add in a chocolate fountain for good measure 😂👍🏻 Does that sound ok?

He hasn’t picked his specific bouncy castle yet but is toying with the idea of a bouncy slide instead so we’ll see what he picks 😊
I do already have balloons - the “punch balloons” are what seem to be all the rage here 🙄 the kids go daft for them 😂

No safe outside space at the venue unfortunately so needs to be all indoor fun 😊
