Teething & weird head movements?

My little one is just 5 months, and has been very fussy / angry recently. It looks like she might be teething, bright red cheeks, tugging at her ear, thick drool, but no sign of any teeth or any swollen gums just yet.

Shes also recently been doing weird head movements with her arms by the sides of her head, almost like crunching her chin down towards her shoulder and scrunching up her face.

The internet has me freaked out with Infantile Spasms, but I am also wondering if it’s teething related?

Anyone have similar experiences with their baby? I’m losing my mind over here! (I’m also an anxious person which really doesn’t help!!!)

thankyou 🙏🏻

Hi OP! My second DD is 5 months and doing all the things you're describing here! My eldest, now almost 4, was exactly the same too around this age! Try and not worry (I'm the worst at this, even second time around, so appreciate it's easier said than done). Google can be a lifesaver but also a nightmare!! I also remember my eldest having teething symptoms from about 3 months but no teeth actually appearing for aaages. I think their teeth move around a lot before they break through - must drive them bonkers! We've been giving our little girl cold sticks of celery, carrot and cucumber to suck and gum at, seems to help! She's so desperate for solids haha so keeps her chilled whilst we're eating too as she feels involved!

This makes me feel so so much more reassured, thankyou!!! Completely agree with you on Google being fab and awful all at the same time!

The head movements look so similar to infantile spasm head movements, I’ve been so so worried!! I’ve given her some calpol today and it seems to have helped so hopefully it’s nothing to worry about.

That's teething. Their mouth/face hurts so they're touching and scrunching that area.

Please stop looking at unhelpful crap on the Internet. You'll have a horrible parenting life doing that and potentially adversely affect you and your DC.
