Did extended breastfeeding affect your periods?

So I’m still bfing my 18 month old. My period came back around 10 month pp and have been pretty consistent since then. However in the last couple of months I’ve had really strange periods. My last one was quite late and now I’m spotting in between cycles. My ds has teeth coming in so he’s increased feeding loads. I’m wondering if anyone else had irregular periods as well when they breastfed past 12 months?

If your DS has increased feeding then it sounds pretty normal! Extra prolactin will interfere with menstrual cycles.

I was an extended breastfeeder for both of mine—with my first I didn’t get my periods back until she was 2! If I remember correctly my cycles were a bit wonky before they settled

I’m going through something similar Op, periods came back at 8 months and fairly regular 28-31 day cycles. DS turned 2 last month and the last couple of months they’ve been 25 days long, with spotting 1-2 days before. A lot of stress in the personal life too but I do still blame it on breastfeeding hormones! He’s still feeding during the night every single night and a couple of times during the day

Yeah my spotting is during ovulation time. I feel like my hormones are so up and down as well. But breastfeeding has definitely picked up in the last couple of months. Mainly due to colds and teeth. I feel like we might be done soon and then he starts wanting to feed again more. Tbh I’d be quite happy to be done soon but I really want him to naturally wean 😩
