When someone asks this and you have had injuries and illness are you honest or do you just go. Yeah thanks you? 🙈

They only broke up Friday here.

My teen has been out with her friends Friday/Saturday/at a sleepover Sunday and back out with them all day yesterday. I would just have to say I’ve barely seen her.

Shinyandnew1 · 15/04/2025 10:15

I would say, 'it's not half term' obviously 😂.

It depends who was asking, as I probably would just say, 'all good here, thanks', you?' if I didn't want to go into it, but if it was a friend, I would probably say, 'it's been a bit rubbish actually!' and tell them what had been happening.

Well, the first thing is correcting the “half term” bit, surely?

In those situations I would say ‘no, it’s been shite’

In my actual situation I would say it’s been great - DH is a teacher so he is in charge of everything and I am getting a break at work 🤣

Depends who's asking.
We're just into the first week here

Comedycook · 15/04/2025 10:18

It would depend how well I knew them. Random mum from the school I knew in passing...yeah good thanks, how about you?

Close relative or best friend...it's been totally shit...let me tell you what happened.....

😂

Where the hell has this 'half term' thing come from? It's very recent I'm sure...

It's the Easter holidays. Are you having a good Easter is most likely to be asked round here. A discussion of the weather usually follows.

Good point it's Easter holiday :)

I responded with a thumbs up rather than an essay 🙈

They are a friend but everything seems to be very good and happy for them. I don't want to moan and groan about illness, and injury. I guess I have answered my own question.

I think it depends who you're talking to. With a friend I'd say it's been tricky. We've had vomiting and diarrhoea. A trip to A&E. 2 bereavements and we are only half way through.

To a school mum. Yeah fine. Although, we've had the lurgy.

FalseSpring · 15/04/2025 10:42

I would definitely correct the 'half term' as I find it very infuriating. It's Easter!

I think anything else than 'fine thanks' would depend on how friendly I was with them.

Dyra · 15/04/2025 11:02

Reply with "I'm so tired" (slightly glossing over the truth).

We're into the second week now, so this time next week they'll be back. Can't wait.

mondaytosunday · 15/04/2025 11:08

Depends who’s asking. Acquaintances I barely know who don’t care if it’s hell or heaven? A breezy ‘oh you know, weather could be better ‘! A good friend? Then the truth.

WhatNoRaisins · 15/04/2025 11:09

Agree it depends on the person, if it's just small talk I'd probably say fine if not I'd elaborate.

Depends who is asking and in what context. Proper friend over coffee, yes I’d be honest, work colleague making conversation at the coffee machine, probably not.
