Please talk to me about swim nappies

I’d like to take my 6 month-old swimming. She’s fully breastfed, hasn’t really got started on solids yet and so still does squirty liquid yellow poos. How does this work with swimming? I gather swim nappies only contain solid matter?

We used a Huggies swim nappy with a reusable "happy nappy" over the top - we used the brand Splash About.

As PP said, 2 nappies and get out to change ASAP after a poo

My breastfed babies were pretty predictable before solids only going every 3rd day (dd1) and every 5th day (dd2) you didn’t dare leave the house on those days until they went!

if they are more regular then you might be able to contain but as soon as you start solids it will be easier

We did the same before DS was on solids. A swim nappy and then a Splash About one over the top and hope for the best 🫣 I’m much more confident taking him swimming now we’re on solids (in every sense of the word!).

Thanks all. Should I just wait a month or two until shes having more solids do you think?

Many swimming pools (especially if it's a private one) stipulate what to wear. Does it say anything on their website? The place we go says you must have a swim nappy (eg the huggies ones) and then either a Splash About neoprene swim nappy over the top, or one of the Splash About swimming costumes / swimsuits with the built in neoprene nappy. Basically their experience is that nothing else works as well at catching poops and if there's a leak, they lose loads of money by having to cancel lessons and filter the pool (it holds classes every day, including weekends solidly from 09.00-18.00 as it goes up to age 7). They relax the rules once you get into the toddler classes but are pretty strict in the baby classes.

I took both my DC from 6months and never had issue. I can count on one hand how many times they did a poop whilst swimming. Get a splash about swim nappy, make sure its tight around the legs and waist, and you'll be fine.

I took my kids swimming from about 3 months old. The neoprene splash about nappies are great and hold everything in. Get out as soon as you realise they've done a poo, but there shouldn't be any leakage.

Double nappy and you will be fine - huggies swim nappy (reusable if they don't poo) and a neoprene happy nappy keeps anything secure normally!
