To antibiotic or not to antibiotic?

17 mo started nursery 5 weeks ago and has had a runny nose and cough for as long.

DH and I caught it too and just can't shake it. Especially DH who has now been prescribed antibiotics and is taking them as of yesterday.

We have all had a fever, and I had a really bad stomach and could barely get out of bed a few days a week or so ago too so it is a nasty bug.

Went to see the doc for 17 mo cough as it is keeping him up some at night and doc wasn't too worried but prescribed 'just in case' antibiotics but was reluctant. He said give it a few more days and go and get the prescription if you like?

Been a few days and cough is the same really. It isn't the worst cough in the world as coughs go but he can't shake it same as us.

So to antibiotic or not to antibiotic?

Personally a cough lasting for 5 weeks, I’d give the antibiotics. DH & DD (2) were really poorly with what sounds the same for 2 weeks. I took DD to docs after 8 days of coughing continuously and temperature and they gave me amoxicillin for her. It went on day 5 of antibiotics, DH is still coughing lots.

There's some awful bugs going round. Might be worth getting the prescription tomorrow then.
