DD frightened not to be wearing nappy? - help wanted

DD2 is 2.6 and theoretically very keen to be potty/toilet trained, but panics and seems terrified every time she does anything not in a nappy. We've had the potty lying about for ages and before Christmas had a handful of wees (some prompted, some not) in there but then she stopped. Recently I tried encouraging her (with a Smartie) to sit on whenever I went on the loo. Worked well all day until she finally weed, screamed her head off and won't try again. Also if she has any accidents eg after bath she gets really upset. However she talks about using the potty and learning how to do it, and prizes the Pingu pants her aunty gave her. DD1 did it all in a week at 2.6 with no issues, then dry at night the following week. I'm not expecting the same (they are VERY different in every way), just I don't know what to expect!!

She doesn't appear to be ready. I'd leave her a month and try again. She'll get there.

Dreamygirl, my DD is exactly the same. My two attempts at potty training have ended with her being absolutely hysterical , desperate to wee but refusing to sit on the potty. She'll sit for hours on the potty when she doesn't need a wee, mind you.
I'm hoping one day it will all magically click into place [wistful emoticon]!

Well at least I know she's not the only one! I think I will try again in the summer holiday.

Just saw this and have to say that my dd is reluctant to wee anywhere - even in nappies. She holds it in all day even when she has nappies or pull-ups on but by about 4 o'clock she starts wriggling about and crying clearly desperate for a wee but she goes hysterical if I suggest she uses the potty or toilet. She has had a couple of wee's at nursery though and she has done it twice at home here, but they were weeks ago and we've had no further progress.
I'd like to ignore it and assume she's not ready but its difficult when I see her so upset every day and know she's desperate.
