In December 2024 I moved into my first home with my son he’s 3 years old he’s a very active little boy we have our own garden for him to play in. He goes to nursery 5 days a week I go to work we’re out the house at 7:20am and get back around 1pm, my neighbour downstairs is a elderly man we’ve not got on the best since moving in as he’s complaining about the noise from my son, I’ve apologised and told him we’re doing our best to keep the noise down as much as we can. I don’t want to make my sons life a misery but he does need to understand when he’s running around or being loud the man downstairs can hear him, my son has a no awful temper so at the minute when he has a tantrum he stamps his feet very loud as he knows he gets a reaction from me, I put him in his bedroom to let him get it out his system but he continues till he’s finished his tantrum. I’ve tried to ignore stamping his feet but he just get worse and louder! I’ve had a letter from my neighbour saying if we can’t keep the noise right down he’s going to be ringing the antisocial behaviour line. My son goes to bed between 7-7:30pm every night. I really don’t know what to do we was really happy when we moved in but now everyday I feel like I don’t even want to live here anymore

Is it carpeted? I would think about having a look for some cheap rugs. Whatever ASB line he is going to call, they are not going to do anything about a toddler stamping his foot. I would (as you have been doing) be very apologetic and do all you can to avoid making a noise. Beyond that, this chap is just going to have to suck it up. He is making you miserable and that a choice he is making. You may well be annoying him but you can't do anything more. So fuck him!

Yes it’s carpeted! I’ve got a massive rug in my living room & a rug in my bedroom but I really don’t think they make a difference! I know i did speak to the ASB line myself and they said if he did ring he basically wouldn’t have a leg to stand on! Fount out from another neighbour that the old women who used to live here before me he’s reported her a few times! She was as old as him so I think I’ve just moved in above the neighbour from hell! It’s a flat what does this man expect there is always a risk there will be noise. Your dc is in bed early so it’s not like it’s 2am x
