My ds is 4 and starting school in September. He's speech delayed and now talks but is massively behind where he should be and still not very conversational. I'm nervous about him starting school as he is behind in all areas of development and I worry he will struggle with reading and writing. He doesn't know the alphabet (as far as I know cause he doesn't say it) and have only heard him count to 10 once when he copied me. Looking for any positive stories please

At SALT training I went to they said that children with speech sound disorders struggle less when they are older than those with language development disorders. Speech sound disorder children might struggle with phonics and spelling but will catch up more quickly. So might depend on what was causing the speech delay? I have a speech delayed child starting in September so also very interested in this. Reception will be quite play based though.
