6yo struggling with reading - any advice?

Hey all,
So I’m really worried about DD (she’s 6). She’s just not getting the hang of reading and I’m not sure if it’s normal for her age. She LOVES drawing and doing creative stuff but when it comes to books, she gets so frustrated and just doesn’t wanna try. We’ve been doing little reading sessions at home but she can barely focus for 5 minutes. Anyone else dealt with this?? Should I be concerned or just let her be for now?

How's her spelling, OP? Have you done a dyslexia screener with her? Dyslexia Quest | Nessy

Can she read?

Have you tried taking turns - you read a page aloud and then she reads a page? This sometimes worked with my DC.

What has her teacher said?
So they learn by decoding?

Step back. But read to her as much as you possibly can. Let her see you and her dad reading and enjoying it. And don’t worry.

I agree with the advice to read to her as much as possible, especially books that really engage her. Do you read to her at bedtime for instance?Talk to her teacher, they will have a better handle on what's a normal level and if you should be concerned. Forcing reading at this stage probably isn't the best idea but there will be strategies to make it fun.

Has she had a proper eye test? Always best to start there if a child is struggling.
