Child’s Christening

Hi there,
bit of a weird one

i am looking to have my baby christened in Catholic Church,
however his father is Protestant, the dad is on the birth certificate but we are separated for a few months now, he has only came to see the child a handful of times since we separated.

i am just wondering would I be able to go ahead and get him christened.

The father isn’t looking him to be christened due to his religion.

if I got the baby Christened anyway, could he take me to court etc?

thank you

Of course it's fine for you to have your baby baptised if you want to. It's none of his business.

The priest will want to satisfy himself that you genuinely intend to raise the child as a catholic, and may want to talk to your ex about his reasons for objecting, but ultimately under Catholic rules only one parent's consent is required and the secular courts would not get involved in matters of religion.

ive tried to explain to his dad, that I really want him christened but he just keeps saying no, just being quite bitter about the whole thing.

so I was thinking just going away myself and doing it, just afraid incase he goes to court and their ends up being a problem xx
