im just looking for some advice…
As a first time mum I feel like I’ve been getting everything wrong.. my health visitor told me that once our daughter turned 6 months she’d be able to have sips of water with her meals. She’s now 8 months old & we bought her a sippy cup style beaker a few months ago and every morning we fill it up & she drinks the entire beaker throughout the day, sometimes we have to fill it up a couple of times. I’m worried that I’m giving her too much water. She’s dropped her bottles of milk massively throughout the day and at most she’s having two bottles - 1. Roughly around dinner time & the second just before she goes to sleep.
Am I giving her too much water ? What’s the amount I should be giving her ? Should I be worried that she’s enjoying the water and will sip on it throughout the entire day ?

My daughter was the same. As soon as she started on food she had minimal interest in milk. If I remember correctly at 6months we just started giving her water with her meals but by 7/8 months we were encouraging her to sip throughout the day aswell as with meals. Sounds like you’re doing everything perfectly! Maybe get her weighed to ensure she is gaining?

Charlotte Stirling-Reed has a good blog on this. I limited both DDs just to water with meals to avoid them filling up on water and not getting what they needed calorie wise because their tummies were already full. We get regular weigh ins with the HV as DD2 is on a low centile so agree with pp that if you havent had a weight check lately, it might be useful. https://www.srnutrition.co.uk/2025/02/how-much-water-does-my-baby-need/

Hi @CJ98
Learn to trust your instincts. You're her mum and you know better than anyone else.
Is she on track weight wise?
Is she as active and playful as always?
Could you take away the sippy cup an hour before bottles?
