My son will be starting school in a few months when he turns 4. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good school bag (ideally rucksack style) and lunch box.

The school is not in the UK so doesn’t have the book bag concept.

One that they can carry themselves, so not bigger than they are.
One that is distinctive enough that they can recognise it.
One that can go in the washing machine.

You can get Cath Kidston children’s backpacks on Next (worldwide delivery) if that’s your child’s vibe. Grin They are good quality.

Where abouts do you live? Countries often have a 'norm'

I bought a lovely little backpack for my nephew from Frugi, he loves it.
