Did your 4 year old have a growth spurt

My ds 4 is very tiny and is 1 percentile for height. He’s always been small as was born 5 weeks early weighing 5lbs3. It’s so noticeable though, his friend who’s 9 days older is so much bigger than him. Did anyone’s child this age go through a growth spurt? I keep hoping it’s going to happen but never has

How big are you and her dad? Petite parents generally have petite kids.

I have experience on both sides here

my eldest is 4 and is 120cm, he has shot up from 112 to 120 since Christmas!!! so yes it’s entirely possible.

my daughter is absolutely tiny, below 80cm at 18 months, I’m praying for a growth spurt for her at this point 🤞🏼

@Snorlaxoi’m 5’0 and his dad is 6’2 so could go either way

@8781jj Oh wow that’s a big jump since Xmas. Did you notice any signs he was going through it?

well to be honest he’s been like a moody teenager for a long time, he’s shot up and looks slimmer, doesn’t look like a toddler anymore. he is extremely tall for his age anyway he always has been but this has been the kind of growth spurt that ever gone has noticed!

My DD is 5 coming up 6 and hasn’t had a growth spurt for ages. She has declined from the 92nd to 9th centiles. Took ages but now she has been referred to endocrinology.

DS was early, tiny and grew ok until 1 and now is off the bottom of the charts at 2.5. He is already seeing endocrinology.

basically, I would get them to your GP and start the ball rolling.

you will have an interesting parental height chart but they should be able to work out the minimum expected growth and see if he is tracking.

if they need growth hormones and checks it’s a long wait in the nhs.

My eldest did. She'd been slowly drifting down the centiles to the extent we'd been referred to a paediatrician. In the five months between the referral and the paeds appointment, she shot up and has followed her new centile nicely ever since (about a year and half so far).
