Jumping percentiles

I have a 10 week year old baby who I exclusively breastfeed and is steadily growing on the 0.4th percentile curve. Does anyone have advice on how to get her growing on a higher percentile?

You said in your previous posts that you have had involvement with HV and dr. What have the advised? Just so people don’t suggest things you’ve already tried.

They are not advising me on how to jump a percentile, they are just monitoring that she is gaining weight, which she is.

My daughter was tiny when she was born and I used formula - as advised by midwives - as well as breastfeeding that helped and she was on the 50th by the time she was around 10 months, and now she’s probably on the 90th! She’s 4 now

How much formula did you give and how often?

Aptimil…honestly can’t remember how often but it was with every feed…she would have that and then breast afterwards if she wanted it I did that until 5 months then only formula

Why do you want to increase her centiles?
If she is healthy and growing along her line, are you basically saying you want to make her fatter than she should be?
I had a low centile baby, who is now a totally healthy, fit and strong teenager. Yes, he still sits low on the centiles - 9th is the highest he ever gets. He eats well, is active, and a nightmare to buy trousers for. But those low centiles are obviously where he is genetically supposed to be (I wish he got it from me!)
In the absence of medical advice to fatten her up I'd keep going how you are. Getting her to follow her line sounds perfect.

I think why I'm stressing is because she was on the 9th and dropped two centiles and now she's gaining but can't get her back to 9th centile

When did she drop? Losing weight and dropping in the centile is normal right after birth. I agree. As long as she is gaining, I wouldn't worry. My kids are on 90+% but neither are overweight. Just taller than average. Those percentiles just mean your kid is smaller/leighter or heavier/taller than the average kid which means nothing as we're all different. As long as she's steadily gaining now - don't worry about it.

WonderingWanda · 23/03/2025 09:20

Agree with others, as long as she is following a centile at the moment that's all you need to worry about in terms of gaining enough to be healthy. If she is meant to be taller her body will sort it out eventually.
