it is too early, solids should not be introduced until around 26 weeks, not 4 months.

are you breast or bottle feeding>? and how often and how much?

bear in mind that a big milk feed is more filling and calorific than a few spoons of rice

fluffyanimal · 13/05/2008 14:17

Too early. Advice is now not to start solids until 6 months. Have a trawl through the Weaning section and you'll see loads of advice on it. 12 weeks is the classic growth spurt time and lots of babies suddenly seem extra hungry all the time. Milk milk and more milk is what your baby needs.

SHEENA1 · 13/05/2008 14:19

i think 6 months is rubbish lol dd was on solids at 4 months .

my ds is a big baby 9Ib 4 wen born and now 12 weeks he's 16!b theres no filling him im bottle feeding 7 oz every 2n half to 3 hours sometimes in morn he wants fed evry hour n half

it is not rubbish, there are good reasons for it, mostly to help prevent allergies and gut problems, teh department of health, NHS and world health organisations all say the same!

offer 8 or 9 oz if he is draining every bottle and try hungry baby milk , althbough it can be constipating and give baby a tummy ache

So what's wrong with feeding him every hour and a half? or every hour?

Lulumama · 13/05/2008 14:28

also, don;t forget babies have growth spurts

feeding more often and seeming unsatisfied can be part of that, and it will settle

SHEENA1 · 13/05/2008 14:28

its too rich for young babys spoke to pharmisist

Lulumama · 13/05/2008 14:31

well, if the pharmacist says the milk is too rich for a young baby, it follows that the food is too much for him too !!

offer an extra ounce or two and feed as much as your baby wants to

that is what babies do !

ok i will leave another few weeks n see how he gets on if still same at 16 weeks i will try rice

OP posts:
Lulumama · 13/05/2008 14:37

i don;t get the hurry

baby rice is not as filling or as nutritious as milk

it is not a magic substance that will stop your baby feeding frequnetly. especially as part of a growth spurt

the hungrier baby milk is suitable , but as i have said, it can cause tummy ache and constipation so go carefully.

also, we need to get our collective heads around the fact that babies feed a lot !!! and that is normal

fiodyl · 13/05/2008 14:46

no its not rubbish there is research that suggests that it is better to wait b4 introducing baby to solids but also waiting until EXACTLY 26 weeks is rubbish too. All babies are individual and some will be ready b4 others.

12 weeks is definatly a bit too early though. are you sure he is definatly hungry? Is he still gaining weight on his current feeds? sometimes babies like to comfort suck- have u tried a dummy?

Also at this age babies are awake alot more in the daytime, but dont really know how to DO anything apart from ask to be fed IYKWIM
