I’m trying to get my 9 month old into her cot she has been in the bed with me up until now and I’m just wondering if buying a bumper is safe ? She likesholding onto something and throwing her legs over also she keeps throwing her soother out and I’m just wondering if a bumper might help but really not sure safety wise , she is still in my room in her cot. Added a pic just for reference of what I was thinking of buying

The advice is nothing in the cot with them until they are 1. Having said that, my health visitor advised if they are mobile, rolling, crawling etc, you can relax the SIDS rules a bit.

So we started allowing our 11 month old one of her small comfort teddies with her recently. We feel fine about it. She is in her own room, in another floor of the house.

No, they're not safe. Picking up the dummy is just part of parenting a child that has one imo. (I always put at least two in the cot with them so it's less trips up as takes longer to throw out).

No they aren’t. It’s not worth risking suffocation because of a dummy.

We got one of those little soft toy comforters that you can attach a couple of dummies with velcro. I also think it helped us eventually get rid of dummies as my son could still sleep with the toy.
That might help if she likes holding something, and also stops dummies falling out of the cot. I wouldn't use a bumper, don't think it's worth the risk as they are not recommended.

They’re not recommended, although for a mobile 9 month old the risk of SIDS is very low.
For my youngest DD I had a mesh airwrap thing which is safe because they can breathe through it but it stopped her getting her arms and legs stuck between the cot bars which she was terrible for doing.

A bumper like that may not be a high suffocation risk for a mobile 9 month old but it's absolutely a climbing risk.

Midwife said no to cot bumper.

redgingerbread · 19/03/2025 10:21

No, they’re a suffocation hazard.

Freedomishereandnow · 19/03/2025 10:22

No

EndlessWashingWhenWillItEnd · 19/03/2025 10:54

You can get those mesh cot bumpers. I believe they should be better- Amazon have a variety. I haven’t done any specific research on them though.

NotOnThe · 19/03/2025 11:07

No

BlondiePortz · 19/03/2025 11:16

No they haven't been for years and if they can't move why would you need them anyway

Topseyt123 · 19/03/2025 11:23

No. They are not safe and are a suffocation risk.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 19/03/2025 11:35

Mesh are NOT safer. Still a strangulation and climbing risk.

TheQuietestSpace · 19/03/2025 11:36

No.

Josiezu · 19/03/2025 11:37

No. You can google this and find the information out immediately.

Scoobyblue · 19/03/2025 12:14

They are not safe. Do not use them.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/03/2025 12:18

No absolutely not safe. Babies have died because of them.

MarioLink · 19/03/2025 15:32

They are not recommended as they pose suffocation and overheating risks.
