5 week old - blocked nose

Hey,

My daughter who is 5 weeks old has a snuffly nose. She is just snorting loads and I can hear there is stuff up there. I have used a saline spray and a snot suckered but nothing is really coming out and her nostrils look clear. She does not have the biggest opening on her nose though.

I just google and apparently babies can't breathe through their mouths at this age. I'm worried about putting her down to sleep - will be be able to breathe if she gets even more congested?

I keep trying to be rational and think that babies must problem solve a blocked nose!?

(She is fine in herself and no temp)

She will be fine. Nature finds a way. Did you try a nose Frida? I used one of these and it’s amazing what is up there.

I remember also thinking my baby’s nostrils weren’t very spacious and then going in with a cotton wool bud and twisting out what I hadn’t realised was very much removable matter!Confused
Try that..? x

I was very worried, too, and I find this not being able to breathe through their mouth thing very confusing. My midwife said they are if they have to…in the end I kept telling myself that we never hear of babies dying due to having a cold and can’t breathe through the mouth, so nature must have taken care of this. All the best xx

Snot suckers from the chemist

If you are breastfeeding that helps clear the nose too
