Hi,
I have a 4 year old who hasnt had a tablet/ device before.
Has anyone got any tips on which tablet and which apps are best? I was hoping to use an older tablet that we have at home but people have recommended the amazon fires?Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
So far it has been quite frustrating, downloading apps then realising rhey aren't quite right or require payment to unlock the better content.

We got my 4yo a Lenovo Tablet for Christmas. I have had them before and find them a decent midrange tablet decent performance and many of the bloat apps that they come with pre installed can be deleted. I read reviews that some of the school apps don't work as well on the Amazon fire or iPads so for longevity we wanted a tablet that in time she could use for school work too.

I use the family link app for managing time it runs through our Google account. I can see how long she has been on each app and set time limits on the tablet as well as each app.

We have a few phonics apps, ceebees and colouring apps. We started by testing various apps on my old tablet before getting her one for Christmas.

We installed an app, sorry can't remember the name, but it gives a kids friendly interface for her to work with. I can select which apps she has accessible. For example no apps internet brokers can be accessed and YouTube is out too.

Thank you, I really appreciate your advice.
I usually use Google based things, so that sounds good for me.
If you could recommend any apps tou are using I would be very grateful. We have cbeebies and are currently using a letter formation app ehich actually seems pretty good.

Personally, I would not get a tablet or any apps for a 4 year old. If you need a tablet, say, for long haul travel, I’d get something you can put Amazon Prime/Netflix/whatever on to download videos from your own accounts, but otherwise, truly the best thing for them is just reading with them, counting games, messy play, being outside. If you need some screen time to get some cleaning done, whack on some Blippi on the tv. The tablet itself is just too enticing that they get obsessed with it and it causes all sorts of issues.
