Sleep Routine 8 week old

Hello,

Im a FTM just muddling through.

Ive been reading about getting my baby into a sleep routine & apparently they can start as early as 8 weeks.

This may be a silly question but if I’m doing a bed time routine and getting little one to bed around 7pm. Does that mean I also need to go to bed at 7pm?? She is currently sleeping in the next to me crib at night & I wouldn’t normally leave her to sleep alone. Currently she will sleep downstairs next to us until we go up to bed around 10pm.

How is everyone else doing it ?

thank you!!

I’d say keep baby downstairs until you are ready to go up yourselves. That’s what we always did.

I would keep her downstairs with you until you go up at this age, or take her up and have an early night if you fancy it. Hope you are okay these are early weeks are tough!

If you want to start a bit of a routine you can but for the next few months she should be in a room with others . You can put her in her sleeping bag and pop her in her basket or csrrycot but I wouldn't go upstairs with her yet. You won't see much of your partner for the next four months of you do. I wouldn't say it is a good idea to start making baby aware of day and night and slowly introducing bed time cues but that it isn't on her interests or yours to be rigid about it.

At that age, I did the "routine" as in bath, story milk, sleep but she slept on my lap til I was ready for bed. When I went to bed she came with me and had a dreamy milk top up before going down properly for the night.

our second child was in the cot alone with the monitor downstairs as we also have a noisy older child (and a noisy DH) and we didn’t want to spend the evening keeping voices down (I’m not just talking a but of background noise - when those two get going on a game it gets loud haha)

You are doing fine. Babies are not meant to be left sleeping on their own until 6 months. Just take up to bed when you do. I didn't really have a routine for my baby. Just went with the flow.
