Advice on overcrowding

my kids and I are currently in temporary accommodation. It’s a 1 bed flat. My kids are a girl, 13 and a boy 9. I am currently 32 weeks pregnant, please don’t judge I only found out at 16 weeks and baby is very loved and very wanted.

partner currently does not live with us and has gone to his mums as there is no room in our temp. We have viewed 13 private rentals this year. Non have been successful due to lack of housing in the area. We have the deposit and home owning guarantor but it doesn’t seem to help.

council have told us we likely won’t be housed for at best 4 to 6 years.

I’ve been told I’m not over crowded. Council have told me I must let my 13 year old have the bedroom as she counts as 1 person. my son in with me as he only counts as half a person. Baby doesn’t count. So I’m expected to have a cot and two beds in the living room.

I have been told moving my partner in would be classed as purposely overcrowding so he just can’t be with us?

honestly I’m becoming so depressed and I feel absolutely helpless.

This is correct in some councils. Would you consider moving? Some councils are willing to place people in other areas eg Hull.

Are the 9 and 13 year olds your partners children?
If not can either of them stay with dad more overnight?

Can you move to a different area?

Not possible due to work and family otherwise I’d love to.

We're in the middle of the worst housing crisis this country has ever been in.

It's probably a good idea to limit your children to 3 now.

@Glitterbug21 ah what a nightmare.
How big is the bedroom? Can you be clever with a division. There are some great ideas using a Kalax boxes to separate a room for the 2 older kids? Then I would get a pull out sofa for you and a little cot.

I would hope the 4-6 years would be just an estimate and just hope and pray something comes up sooner. You can use that time to really save and be in a better position to privately rent ?

They are struggling too.

Yes general plan. Would prefer to private rent anyway.
