Newborn constipated

Hi ladies any advice please

my newborn is 5 weeks today
for about 3 weeks she’s was straining so much and going red it face. This could happen at anytime. She started to poo much less. She then started to stop passing a poo and I would have to help her with bicycle legs etc. the poo was always soft
her belly became very bloated and distended so I went to the GP
GP referred us to paediatrician so I’m waiting for that appointment. GP also recommended to change to lactose free formula to see if it improves her tummy upset

she has been on lactose free since Monday
to be honest I think she is straining much less! She does seem much more comfortable as the straining would be constant before.
Tuesday she managed to poo alone twice! Yesterday she poo in morning and it became a bit more thick, now this morning she has passed two pebble like poo’s
now I’m stressed again?! She doesn’t seem uncomfortable. Could this pebble poo be maybe old poo clearing itself out? I’m waiting for the appointment for paediatrician. Should I worry more in the mean time? Thanks

I had this and found online that babies, especially newborns don't know how to use the poo pushing muscles yet. So they are going red, make noises, cry etc trying to figure out how to push. It's not painful for them, just frustrating.

To help them, rub a bit of sunflower of olive oil on their anus. Rub it for about 10 seconds which stimulates it, within a couple of hours they will do a big poo. I had to do this regularly and it worked so well. Mine is fine now at 4 months.

If you are formula feeding, try Similac Comfort for constipation and sensitive tummys. It's an excellent formula.
