I've mucked up big time

My child has been in a 3 tier system and although we moved (only a few miles away) I kept her in the first school. It then came to apply for middle so I applied for the feeder middle school. I stupidly thought there was not a middle school here she could go to as it's 2 tier, stupidly I didn't consider instead of applying to middle school I would need to apply to primary school in my area. She got put on the waiting list for feeder but re-directed to a school 15 miles away.

I've stuffed this up big time. I've now re-applied but due to my stuff up I'm thinking I'm going to end up driving 30 miles a day plus drive to my job if there are no spaces here

Did you put down more than one middle school choice?

If you want her to move to the 2 tier system then you would need to do an in year application direct the school. Once you’ve been offered a place she would need to start within 2 weeks, they can’t hold it until September.

I would echo what the PP has said. In your new area, there are no middle schools so there was no application to make in that area. You would have needed to have done an in-year application to a primary school, and seen if there were any places available at your preferred school(s). You can still do that now. You can also put her on the waiting list for any nearer middle school that you might prefer as well.

It's up to you to decide if you want to keep her in the 3-tier system in your previous LA, or move her to the 2-tier system in your new LA. You haven't been stupid or got it particularly wrong, and it can all be resolved, likely before September.
