My two year absolutely hates everything, bath time is so miserable as she hates having her hair washed then just screams the whole time she’s in the bath, hates her hair being brushed, hates brushing her teeth and getting dressed I have everything to make these fun

Possibly sensory processing disorder

mindutopia · 03/03/2025 18:08

I think that’s pretty normal, unfortunately. I would say that mine have both gone through these phases and neither of them have sensory issues. What does help is getting in there and doing it before they get overtired, and if you have a partner, having the parent who isn’t the one who’s burnt out from doing it all day to be the one to do it. For example, Dh always did bathtime and got them dressed. They do better with the fresh fun parent when overtired and you just need to get stuff done.

Mine hated baths.

We did once a week in the end.

And it was quick. By age 7 she was showering herself once a week we helped wash her hair.

They move on. By age 10 daily showers.

Try to relax and go with it. X

They want to dress themselves. Hate being out of control.

Maybe ask her what she wants to wear and if she wants help to brush her own teeth.

She will get better at 3 and much better at 4. X

2 is bad for tantrums!

"Sensory processing disorder" 🤣

Totally normal for two. We're in the trenches with this also. Offering lots of two-option choices, and rolling with the chaos, is the only way we're managing to navigate it here. It will pass!

Sounds normal to me, how's her understanding? Could try choices ie would you like to brush your hair first or get dressed first. Or just make it fun / make it a song / anything to capture their attention. Kids are wild.
