Microwaving baby bottles opinions

My 19 month son still has one bottle of formula a day (long story, have tried to switch many times and not successful).

I still sterilise the bottle, because I read formula milk can harbour more bacteria. It's quick and easy so I don't consider it a faff. I also have a 5 month old daughter, and probably on autopilot, when I sterilise her dummies I also sometimes sterilise my sons. Ive never actually thought about it.

My sister however has told me microwaving plastic is dreadful for leaching chemicals and microplastics. I know there's no need to sterilise after 1 year old, it's more a habit I've never questioned.

I'm just wondering does anyone else microwave/sterilise their baby products beyond a year? Is it really that harmful? I suppose I'm trying to ease the mom guilt, although what i probably need is a good nap.

No because to me microwaving is worse than sterilisation after the age it is needed anyway

My Dd had a bottle before bed until 2 because she just liked it. Her teeth are fine.
At 2 we started to decrease the amount then started cutting it with water and she “dropped it on her own” as watery milk is gross.

we use a steamer now but if I was still using a microwave steamer (as I did with my oldest) I’d be using that.

parenting is judging and being judged.
You do what you think is best and with an age gap that small life is hard right now…if you are really concerned a decent steamer is about £40

DP was paranoid about "hot spots" in microwave baby food-and I assured him that I never warmed DS dinner in the microwave. All was well-until the day he saw DS, who loved his food, bouncing like an over excited kangaroo when he heard the "ping"🤣

Yes, generally I wouldn’t microwave plastic that I would put a drink in because of the leaching chemicals and microplastics. But for my baby who was ff, I stopped sterilising at 6 months. I would think it’s as safe or safer just to wash in hot soapy water. I’d never sterilise a dummy in microwave for same reasons, but I never sterilised dummies, just good hot soapy wash.

@mindutopia yeah you're probably right, I just thought baby and microwave safe is fine. Dang
