I’ve tried to be reasonable when it comes to Sabrina Carpenters branding and argue that shes an adult and making music for adults and if children hear it and like it then that’s in parents remit but I struggle with this. This was next to unicorn/barbie colouring books definitely intended for young children, who exactly is this merchandise targeted at? What do you say to a 7 year old who asks mummy to buy this for her? You’re a grown woman and power to you but at what point should we consider the impact of the sex that sells?

So the front cover has pictures of her on, and the other pic is of her in her pyjamas and a bed to colour in.

It's hardly porn.

You say no, if you don't want to buy it, to a seven year old child. It is not hard. This woman is not interested in the impact on anybody. It is about them making as much money as they can, whilst they can.

I'd flick through myself, as I do with all the comics they want to buy, and then say no, that's for older kids (and yes I have a 7yo, who really wanted a Deadpool comic which was equally inappropriate.). I wouldn't buy it, but tbh I'd be surprised at any 7yo knowing who the hell Sabrina Carpenter was in the first place.

That’s not pyjamas that’s underwear. She’s in the bath…obviously you can only say no, like you would if your child asked you for drugs. But that doesn’t make it ok that there’s people out there who think it’s ok to market it directly at our children.

Kylie was in the bath in the I Should Be So Lucky video and a generation older millennials survived that unscathed.

I was just thinking the same!

I can remember Madonna writhing about and humping the stage to Like a Virgin when I was in primary.
this seems quite tame in comparison. Her act is clearly based around saucy 50s publications etc. and not for children, not everything has to be for children!

The thing is, I doubt that merch is approved or pushed by SC or her team.

It's capitalism. Find the in thing and make ALL the merch aimed at ALL the ages. In fact, the younger the better (as they're more annoying convincing).Grin

Unfortunately, lately the in thing have either been very sexualised or gore based.

I'm not a fan of SC or her shtick but this has nothing to do with her.

As for what to say to the 7 yo? No. It really is that easy. Or if you want to expand "No darling, there's a time and place for these kind of thing, and that time and place is university " Grin
