Single Parent Holidays

I've been a single parent for 4 years. Kids are 14 and 11. We havent had a proper holiday since I became a single parent as money is so tight. However, they're getting older and I'd love to experience some holidays with them before they decide they're too old to go on holiday with mum!

Any recommendations for resorts thar aren't too expensive but feel safe for a single mum with two kids?
I'd also love to do some city breaks but I'm very nervous about travelling around an unknown country/city. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Gran Canaria is very family friendly. Might not be exciting enough though unless your kids like the beach?

Lisbon and Dublin are both safe and have attractions (depending on whether you want good weather or not...).

Flying to Naples and getting the train to Pompeii and Herculaneum is a good one if the kids like history. Stay in Sorrento, Naples can be rough.

Hoping for some practical advice please. I'm a single Mum, going on holiday next month with my 10 year old - first time abroad for her. We'll be away on our own (no friends or family) and I'm trying to figure out how to look after valuables (money/credit card/phone) while we are pool-side / at the beach / on a boat trip / etc. Should I keep everything on me - in a "waterproof" plastic pouch whilst we swim, snorkel, etc? I can't think of an alternative but would welcome any recommendations.

Honestly I think this depends a lot on where you're going. We were in a smallish resort on Corfu, kind of private beach and family friendly. We left everything on our loungers all the time. One day we went up to the villa to have a nap and my partner left his whole work rucksack at the beach - laptop, wallet, phone etc. No problem.

When we were on Majorca however, I just used to take the absolute minimum with me - room key, bit of cash, one credit card. They went into a totally waterproof bumbag (yeah not the most fashionable look!) and I wore it whilst swimming and snorkelling.
