Cutting out dairy - silent reflux

Hi there,

My second baby is 6 weeks old and is showing all the symptoms of silent reflux. She also has laryngolomacia and I understand they go hand in hand.

My health visitor has suggested I cut out dairy as she thinks she may have CMPA. I’m not entirely convinced as, aside from the reflux and gas, she has no other symptoms (e.g rash, mucus etc).

She said I only need to cut down; not completely eliminate dairy and I wondered if anyone knows if this is best advice? My older daughter also had reflux and I was advised at the time to cut out dairy completely, read all labels etc, as otherwise it wouldn’t be effective.

I’m happy to go whole hog again but would be so much easier just to cut down/avoid obvious dairy sources. But then what’s the point of it doesn’t help!

If anyone has sought advice from a dietitian or paediatrician and knows what’s best, I’d be v grateful.

Likewise anyone who has experienced the reflux/layrngolomacia duo and has general tips?
x

IME I needed to strictly cut out dairy while I was breastfeeding my dairy intolerant refluxer. If I did, he thrived. Dairy also gave him severe nappy rash and patches of eczema. If I had a sandwich with butter, the eczema re-appeared within hours of feeding him.

There a great article on BFing and food sensitivities here from Kellymom.

My understanding is that if it is CMPA you would have to cut out dairy completely too.

Not all people with CMPA have a skin rash though

And has Tongue Toe been ruled out? The symptoms are very similar Flowers
