Clothing and child maintenance

my ex partner pays child maintenance for my child. I suggested that he contributes more money for clothes such as Easter Sunday/easter Monday clothes so whatever the total would be we both pay half of this clothing bill. He has said no as he pays maintenance and doesn’t have our son on these days and he will buy clothing for the days over Easter break when our son is with him Is this right?

Having been through this before I believe that legally all he has to pay is child maintenance and nothing else, other than obviously feed him etc when he is at his house. There are many decent men out there who will go 50/50 on other expenses such as school uniform, trips, shoes etc, or at the very least buy extra clothes for when they have them. But you can’t force him 😔

He is right. He only has to pay maintenance and costs when ds is with him.

What are Easter Sunday/Monday clothes?

He doesn’t have to pay anything above CMS

Yeah, if you want him to have special clothes you buy them and he can too if he chooses.

I think it might be reasonable to ask for help with school uniform or maybe a winter coat. But if he pays maintenance, you likely get child benefit & maybe even some UC which are intended to cover food & clothing.

What are you doing buying special clothes for Easter? I've never heard of that.
