11 day old baby - Feeding Help!

My baby is 11 days old. She had started to drink around 90ml of formula roughly every 3 hours. The last day and a half, she had dropped to 30ml - 60ml but feeding more frequently so every 2hrs or even 1. Is this normal?

Also, how long can you leave a bottle of formula out and use it? If she feeds 30ml and then wants more 20 minutes later can I use the same bottle or should I make a fresh one?

Thankyou from a first time mum trying to navigate this new world!

UNICEF have a few leaflets on bottle feeding and NHS Scotland do as well.
Its says 2 hours at room temp for an unused bottle and that used bottle leftovers should be discarded. You could ignore that. Or put split the feed into two bottles and then the unused half can be fed a little later

2 hours.

I would suggest a "routine" (I use the word loosly) at this age of:

  • baby wakes
  • Feed baby from fresh bottle until refusing anymore
  • Burp baby
  • Reoffer same bottle until refusing
  • Burp baby again
  • Floor time / tummy time
  • First cry = pick up, cuddle, place back down for floor time
  • Second cry = Sleep time. Re-offer same bottle (on assumption this is <2h from first waking), then start settling back down for next nap.

Once asleep, dispose of what's left in bottle. Wait until awake and repeat above cycle with new bottle. If at any point the bottle is empty, increase volume in future bottles so there is always an excess.

I thought it was an hour for a used bottle? 2 hours for used bottle?
