Ok, so I've been given all these nappies...

by the council, but I've no idea how to use them. Any tips would be welcomed.

My main questions are:

Do totsbots need a wrap and liner?

What is the flappy bit inside the totsbots for?

Can you just dispose / wash the liner and keep using the outer part?

How do you tie the muslins?

Can I interchange washable and disposable liners in all nappies?

Do I need to soak anything / everything?

It's all too confusing for my poor brain.

I've got:

5 wraps

2 muslins

1 motherease inner part

2 totsbots

2 popolini all in ones

several cloth inserts

liners

I need help quick! I put on a popolini in hope and now am waiting in trepidation.

p.s.dd 4 months old.

I'm no expert but..
totsbots need wrap. Liners optional but useful for removing solids!
the flappy bit is a booster layer.
no need to soak, although you may want to if it's poopy. Nappies are best washed at 60 deg.

You'll have to wait for someone else to answer the rest!

So do you put the flappy bit over the liner or under it?

put the flappy bit under the liner. It flaps out to reduce drying time. You can use either washable / disposable liners in any nappy and they go next to the bum to help keep the moisture away from the skin.

I am no expert either but will try and help:

Do totsbots need a wrap and liner?

Yes, they do need a wrap and a liner as well. Liners keep moisture away from your babys skin and help contain solids

What is the flappy bit inside the totsbots for?

It is a booster, to increase absorbancy.

Can you just dispose / wash the liner and keep using the outer part?

Change nappy and liner at the same time.

How do you tie the muslins?

No idea about muslins, sorry!

Can I interchange washable and disposable liners in all nappies?

Yes I would think so, you will soon prefer one or the other!!

Do I need to soak anything / everything?

I don't soak, I tried but couldn't stand lifting it out of the bucket. I give nappies a quick rinse and then pop them ina bucket. When bucket is full I chuck it all in the machine at 60.

These two articles should help - in fact the whole website is a very useful resource and well worth a look.

Did you get any pins or nappy nippas to use with the muslins - that is the normal way to fix them to your baby.

how to fold terry nappies / muslins

how to fold the booster in totsbots

You say you have several cloth inserts...I'm wondering if some of these are in fact 'Prefolds' a sort of flat nappy made of three panels - the middle one is thicker than the other two. If you have prefolds then this link will help you too.

pinning prefolds

If any of your wraps have a gusset then you can fold the muslins into a pad and place them in the gusset of the wrap (which is the conventional thing to do with a prefold).

If you DD is 4 months old she will probably go through a muslin pretty quickly though - most people can only get away with them for the first 8 weeks (if they're lucky).

Don't bother with soaking. Wash at 60 or 40 with half the normal amount of washing powder and no softener

Experiment with the liners and see what suits best - some people go liner-less with young babies. I prefer to use fleece as it keeps the babies bottom dry very well.

Not much of a trial kit there are lots more nappies out there to have fun with - out of what you have I find the shaped (totsbots) nappies best.

That's great. Thanks a lot. IT was a bit of a confusing mix in the bag. I might buy a couple of new ones too to play with.
