Newborn dirty nappies

We're supposed to expect 1-2 a day, but I think we're getting 6 or more. Baby is mixed fed. Asked both midwife and HV, and both said breast milk is a laxative etc etc. Almost always expect a dirty nappy after a breast or formula feed and it's usually a small amount, just a little squirt. Is this within the range of normal?

How old? Patterns can change a lot in first few weeks and months.

Newborn I would expect min 6 a day

Breastfed both of mine and 6-8 was average

One of ours would go smaller amounts 4-5 times a day, one would go every few days but a large amount.
The one going every few days has had constipation issues ongoing for years, so I think more regularly is likely a sign of better digestive health.

Totally, totally normal and healthy.

Whoever told you a newborn would only go through two nappies a day was unreasonable. I think in the new born stage you can easily change 6 - 12 a day depending on breast or formula fed. It eases off after a few weeks. But I would still expect 4 plus a day for the first 6 months.
