3yo sore tingly lips after trying calamari- advice

My daughter just tried a piece of calamari for the first time 2 hours ago. She’s never had seafood before. She started complaining of sore itchy lips and chin about 5mins after. I’m thinkings it’s likely an allergy or intolerance. She’s cheery enough in herself but I’ve given her some piriton for her mouth.
do you think she’s ok to go to bed as normal or should I be observing her for longer in case it gets worse? Not sure if bad allergies present themselves immediately? any advice welcome x

Sounds like an allergy - I’d keep her up for a few hours to observe her. Typically the second reaction is worse than the first so definitely avoid shellfish and make a GP appointment.

Has she really never had seafood before at 2? Not even fish or do you mean shellfish? That’s quite unusual and yes, it could be an allergy. I would just make sure you stay with her, including probably overnight. My dd had an allergic reaction at around 8 months, though not the first time she had it (a seed), it was a facial rash and puffiness. We didn’t actually connect it to food at the time. She had it again about a month later and her whole face swelled, eyes swelled shut and she vomited after we put her to bed. Doctor advised holding off and trying to reintroduce after 1 and she was fine, Just one of those things. Was it breaded or in a sauce? It could also be something else entirely and not the squid.

I have a severe allergy to seafood and it can last a while once triggered off (even after epi pen administered) so I would keep her up to keep an eye on her.

I won’t ever give my dc seafood just in case it’s genetic as I’ve had such severe reactions s

Give her some kids piriton.

It was a piece of fried calamari. She’s mainly vegetarian and only ever had a bit of cod before.
She’s sleeping happily now next to me. Hoping that it was just a mild reaction.
will definitely avoid seafood from now on!

I gave her some an hour ago and seemed to stop the sore lips 🙂
