Do they know so young?

My daughter is 8, I've recently seen letters she's wrote (but not give out) to girls in her class saying that she likes them and would like them to be her girlfriend. When I spoke to her she got a little upset and stated she didn't mean it. I've reassured her it doesn't matter if she does like them and wants them to be her girlfriend, but I'm just wondering is she old enough to know she likes girls not boys? I feel so sad that she's clearly got this struggle going on in her young mind.

My gay friends say yes. I asked them because my 5 year old has said for a long time she wants a wife when she is a grown up. What will be will be.

I think you need to be careful saying it doesn’t matter if she like them as it sound like there could be a problem with it.

Every gay friend I've ever had has said they knew from very young, well before puberty.

Imo 8 is too young for girlfriends or boyfriends.
Just friends who are girls or boys.

I didn't mean I actually said the words it doesn't matter, I mean I told her it's okay feeling whatever way she feels as she got really upset saying she didn't mean it as though she thinks it's the wrong thing, yes I agree what will be will be 🙂
