rash on lower back of toddler

Hi All,

My LO is 16 months old.

2 days ago I noticed he was itching his lower back over his clothes, bless him he couldn't reach so I was massaging it and then thought lemme check the area and he has small red spots on that area!!

He keeps on itching it and it's horrible to see. I wet his towel and dab it on his back but I don't know what else to use on it. Also, what causes these things please?

Please can anyone give some advice?

Have you tried some piriton so see if that clears up the rash?

It's not chicken pox starting is it?

Could be eczema - is the skin also quite dry?

If the spots aren't spreading and don't look like blisters then they are likely to be dry skin/eczema, an allergy, contact dermatitis or a viral rash.

Give him some piriton as it will likely take down the itching.

Calomine cream will also help with the itching.

Have you changed your washing powder recently? If so, change it back to whatever you were using before the rash.

If the spots are spreading or look like blisters then he may have chicken pox.

Around 2am today he was soooo itchy bless him it was horrible to see and so I called the NHS 111 and they prescribed him antihistamine, not piriton name but it's still an antihistamine to take orally I thought it was gonna be a cream or soemthing first! thanks all once again xxx
