We have a Mazda 6 estate (big boot to fit bike/pram/trike/scooter) that we’re considering selling and buying a 4x4/SUV family car.

Just been to see an Audi Q5 that I’d never be able to get our 18 month old out of his car seat, unless I was parked in a parent & child space, it’s so wide!

What’s everyone driving? What SUV is easy to get an 18 month old out of a car seat in a standard parking space?

The photo of the Q5 door isn’t even it open fully and it would be a squeeze at that width.

I've found this site quite useful for size comparisons.

I have a skoda Octavia estate. I love it. I was initially looking at 4x4s/SUVs but I didn't actually find them that practical-since you already have an estate you also might find that most of them have less space. I wanted an SUV for the highter driving position but I find the estate much more practical for a family now

We found a VW Golf was the handiest car for the kids, especially when they were very small. Fits in all known parking spaces, car seats go in easily, door size is reasonable, boot ample for pushchair, and you can get your week's shopping on top of the pushchair or on the front seat. I've had bigger cars but the VW Golf was the best and I'm planning to get a Golf estate next time I'm looking for something just for that bit of extra boot space without being too long.
