We've just sold our house and we're moving to be nearer family. DS had a place at the local primary to start in September but chances are we'll have moved house before September. Does anyone know what happens in these situations? We don't know exactly where we'll be moving to yet but when we do will the local council give him a place at the local primary automatically or will be left to fend for ourselves?

You can contact LEA when you have an address - signed lease or exchange on house- to ask them to allocate you a place. A few do have a policy for those moving but most will just allocate the nearest available place which may not be at a school fo your choosing. You can always phone schools to view and ask if they have places or a waiting list but you can't be offered a place until you are actuially local iyswim.
