Toddler bedtime gone to absolute pot

DS 2.5. Slept in his own room since about 17 months. No issues at all. A wonderful sleeper from about 6 months old.

Well things have gone to shit a bit...! Bedtime is a joke now.

He goes to nursery 4 days a week and occasionally naps.. Doesn't nap at home anymore at all. Bed time is 7pm with wind down bath teeth etc from 6pm.

He will not entertain sleeping in his bed anymore. It's an absolute non starter. If we try he just screams and screams to go to mums bed. Poor DP has made a nest in the spare room.

Even when we get into my bed he's just not tired. Talks and talks then wants a drink. Then he's hungry. Then he wants to talk about his toys. It's like he's just not tired. Now we are laid in darkness and he's still just chatting away to me.

I'm sure it's normal I'm sure it's a phase but any advice would be fab!

I wouldnt say I mind him sleeping in my bed but it would be nice to get him back in his and sleep next to my dp again!

I move him when he's asleep but he just comes back in a few hours later. I've asked him why and he says he just wants to sleep in mums bed.

Have you tried a later bedtime? My DS has always had a natural bedtime of 8:30, any earlier it causes mayhem.

Yep. Moved it to 8. Same issue. Moved it to 8.30 slightly easier but he's exhausted in the morning and getting him up for nusery is hell.

Stick to the routine. He promises you from nursery so try to give plenty of chat and parent-time before bed time.

But keep to the routine rigorously for at least 2 weeks and things will settle again.

Promises -> probably

Start teaching him that screaming won’t get him his own way. Won’t take more than a few days.

Thanks for the replies. Totally exhausted- bed time is still ongoing now.

Will keep up the routine and hopefully things go back to normal....
