Is this normal? Or am I insane to do this?

Hello all,

My little ones sleep routine at the moment is on and off with how long they'll sleep in-between feeds and changes at night. Sometimes it'll be as little as 2.5 to a record max of 6.5 hours, but because they're only 7 weeks old, I'm not holding my breath that it'll be consistent as of yet.

Tonight was one of those nights where they slept for 6.5 hours, nappy changed, feeding for 10 minutes and then zonking out and they've been asleep for over an hour so far.

Here's where I think I might be mad... Because they've gifted me with 6.5 hours sleep, I don't feel tired at all and I'm wide awake.

So at 5am I decided to go downstairs to pump whatever was left and froze about 5 oz if milk (were trialing a bottle so my partner can do feeds etc) then I cleaned the pumps and two bottles we tried to feed them with yesterday (first time, didn't go well) and placed them onto the drying rack for me to sterilise in the microwave later. Did a couple of other things and made myself a cup of tea.

Now I'm happily browsing my phone and taking time to just relax knowing they don't need me for anything right now.

But am I mad to still be awake? Should I be grabbing as much sleep as possible right now even though I'm not tiree or should I see this as an opportunity to get things done I might not normally have time for during the day to save myself the hassle later?

This is still all so new to me and if anyone else is an early bird who does this and you have any helpful tips please share your thoughts

I would be the same as you and see it as an opportunity to get things done. If you were really tired, you'd sleep surely?

Getting those things done was needed, so you've done a good job. 👏🏼

Not mad at all! I run around like crazy, trying to do everything that needs doing, during nap time. I feel much more relaxed in a tidy house.

I also take the time to shower and eat and sit on my phone/read/watch TV. I'd rather enjoy my "time off" awake, rather than asleep.

Congrats what a productive start to the day! In those days I was always tired so mostly slept when DC slept - enjoy being on a roll!
