army crawling for 2 months!

I’ve been very consistent with tummy time since my son was 3 months old and he has spent all of his waking time on his tummy since. Due to this he started moving around early and was pushing backwards at 5 months and at 6 months he started army crawling. As the weeks progressed he became fast and very comfortable army crawling. And here we are, 2 months later and still army crawling. He gets up on all 4 and is pulling to a stand and taking some steps but will not move other than when he army crawls. I’m Getting a bit worried as I think he might skip crawling and go straight from army crawling to walking… is there anyone else who had a baby that army crawled for a very long time or skipped regular crawling all together and went straight from army crawling to walking?

Mine did.
Commando crawled and did the cruising walking (ie holding on to furniture) and then walked.
Not until she was 19 months though. She did crawl "normally" a few times but that was pretty much the same time as her walking.

My DS never crawled, went from acting like a beached whale, to standing hanging on to the sofa, then sofa surfing, finally walking at 10 months (annoyingly 🙄).

Why are you worried? It sounds fine neither of mine ever crawled just dragged themselves around and then went to walking :)

DS1 army crawled from very little (4.5 months!) He was cruising by 7.5 months but didn't all four crawl til 10.5 months but didn't walk solo til 14 months. I think he worked out his methods were speedier then trying out other methods!

Was very happy when DS2 didn't crawl til 8 months tbh!

My DS too. Army crawling from 6 to 12 months then straight to walking. He's a completely healthy and sporty teen now. Don't worry!

BigBurrata · 16/01/2025 19:48

DS did army crawling too!
A combination of army crawling and rolling got him most places he wanted to go.
Then cruising a lot, and finally walking unaided around 18 months.

DS was a late talker and also late with being able to sit up. Commando crawled everywhere.
He was reluctant to stand up and use furniture to aid him walking.

One day in the kitchen, he stood up with his back against a cupboard and took off walking. He was 19 months old.

Edited to add, it was discovered a few years later by a gymnastic coach that he had weak core muscles which can be a sign of dyspraxia.

My daughter didn't crawl at all. Pulled up to standing at 8 months, cruising around furniture by 9 months but didnt walk independently until 13 months. I am reliably informed that I didn't crawl either and was walking by around the 1 year mark. We are all different!

My eldest son army crawled from 5 months. He was super fast and was into everything. I think he did start proper crawling around 10 months. At 12 months he stood up and walked across the room unaided - then went back to crawling. Didn't walk again until he was 14 months old and then he stood up again and started running everywhere.

My friend's son would sit in one place and never crawled. They used to put the things they didn't want him to get to on the floor. I think he did learn to crawl at about 12 months but he started walking at about 10 months so never really needed to.

They are both healthy young men.

Your son sounds absolutely fine, he will do everything when it comes naturally to him and will no doubt surprise you over the next couple of months.

Poppadomstreet · 16/01/2025 20:26

My eldest army crawled for 3 months, all four crawled for 2 weeks then walking at 10 months.

Youngest has been all four crawling for last 5 months and now at 10 months can walk but only a few steps at a time and only when someone is eating something he wants!

They are all different, don’t worry

Miracle1116 · 16/01/2025 20:32

Older DS army crawled from 7-10months then crawled on all 4 until 13 months then started walking, younger DS same but earlier for about a month (older one was on his tummy from 2 months and hated it in the beginning, younger one since month 1 and loved it so was a bit stronger). Older DS never learned to sit unaided until he started walking and running, nothing wrong with him at all, so many different stories but all normal and nothing to worry about

RatRatPig · 16/01/2025 21:04

Yep, mine army crawled, then started pulling herself up, then walked around holding her (usefully short!) grandma's hands for a few weeks, and was walking before 11 months

Groundhogday2025 · 16/01/2025 21:07

Army crawling is a type of crawling, as is bum shuffling and crab crawling, even rolling is. Nothing to be concerned about at all.
