Talk to me about nursing

I posted this in chat but someone advised i may get more response here.
I have decided that in 3 years (long time I know) when dd2 starts school i would like to train to be a nurse.
I have found the nurses that have dealt with my mum over the last few days truly inspirational and I would like to feel like that about what I do, there is no way on this earth i could ever go back to shuffling paper.
Anyway i have looked and would possibly be able to do an accelerated course in 2 years as I have a pyschology degree.
Tell me what you think, highs, lows (I think i pretty much know what the lows would be anyway) and your experience of nursing with a young family etc.
Any sharing most welcome.
Thanks xx

I'm wondering if you could get some sort of care assistent job in a hospital to give you some sort of idea of what nursing is like. Some hospital experience will also help you get on a course, even if it's just a few months.

I also did an accelerated course. It was a huge amount of work, with a lot of full time placements and left me feeling inadequately trained. And of course I didn't have children then!
